The Best Hills in the British Isles

Welcome to the Chronicles of the ‘Worthies’, a collective noun to describe the finest hills in Britain and Ireland!

There are already numerous lists of hills and mountains, categorised generally by statistical classifications, mostly based around relative elevation rather than the perception of quality. Those lists inevitably become the basis of peak bagging exercises, although the ‘Worthies’ is not so designed, nonetheless, climbing them all would certainly enrich your soul.

In the course of hundreds of blog posts, my quest is to describe the fundamental character of each chosen hill as a representative to convey the essence of each distinctive area of Britain and Ireland. The Blog button at the top reveals sub menus from which topics and geographical areas can be chosen. This is an ongoing project and individual blogs may be updated from time to time.

Step by step instructions for ascents can be easily obtained elsewhere and are only briefly referred to here. Instead, to be found in these posts are individual mountain eulogies capturing the atmosphere of each peak, whether a celebrated summit or reclusive backwater gem. Hundreds of entries are to be listed and all are equally ‘Worthy’ for their own unique qualities.

This is a database of the distinguished.
